Why This Retreat

Join the Legacy of Faith - In the Heart of the Alps

Over fifty years ago, Pastor Chuck Smith opened the doors of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to beatniks and hippies, sparking a movement that became known as the Jesus Revolution. But in reality, it was simply another chapter in the 2,000-year story of the church-one that we are still a part of today.

To equip the next generation, Pastor Chuck founded Calvary Chapel Bible College, a place where young believers could grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and deepen their knowledge of Christ through His Word. That mission continues today.

Now, we invite you to step into that story in a new way- on a retreat in the Austrian Alps. When was the last time you considered your place in the unfolding story of the church? When did you last step away from the distractions of daily life to strengthen your faith, deepen your understanding of God's Word, and build relationships with fellow believers who are walking the same path?

Schloss Heroldeck, a historic Christian retreat center perched above the picturesque village of Millstatt, Austria, offers the perfect setting. With breathtaking views of the Alps and Lake Millstatt, this serene location is designed for worship, renewal, and connection.

This intimate retreat is limited to twelve couples or individuals, joined by CCBC President Justin Thomas and his wife Brittany, along with recent CCBC graduates who will serve as ambassadors of the college.

Tentative Itinerary

A Week of Spiritual Growth and Exploration

Your journey begins in Salzburg, where you'll spend two nights at our host hotel, connecting with fellow retreat participants. While there, we'll explore iconic sites like Mozart's Residence and landmarks from The Sound of Music.

From Salzburg, we'll travel together to Schloss Heroldeck Castle in Millstatt, a breathtaking retreat setting overlooking Lake Millstatt. Here, you'll experience deep spiritual renewal through Bible teaching led by Pastor Lance Ralston, meaningful worship, and rich fellowship.

Daily Rhythm at the Castle:

  • Morning Devotionals - Led by Justin Thomas, setting a Christ-centered tone for the day.

  • Bible Study Sessions - Dive deeply into God's Word with engaging teaching

  • Free Afternoons - HIke the Alps, explore the local area, or relax by the lake.

  • Evening Worship & Fellowship - End the day in God's presence through worship and shared community.

Hallstatt - A stunning lakeside town so picturesque, China built a replica.

Ljubljana, Slovenia -  The charming capital city is known for its history and beauty.

Shopping in Italy - Experience Italian culture just a short drive away.

In-Depth Bible Teaching With Pastor Lance Ralston

We are thrilled to welcome Pastor Lance Ralston as our main Bible teacher for this retreat. 

Pastor Lance is the founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Oxnard, where he has faithfully taught God's Word for over 40 years.  He is now serving as a content provider and pastor at large for Enduring Word. 
His passion for biblical history, discipleship, and equipping believers has impacted countless lives. 

At this retreat, Pastor Lance will lead us through an in-depth study of Scripture, bringing historical context, practical wisdom, and fresh insight into God's Word.
